General
What is a stairlift?
A powered chair or platform that travels along a rail fixed to your staircase, carrying you safely up and down the stairs.
Are stairlifts noisy?
Modern stairlifts are very quiet - generally no louder than a microwave, and typically can't be heard through adjoining walls.
Will my staircase still be usable once a stairlift is fitted?
Yes - the seat, arms and footrest fold away when not in use, keeping the staircase clear for others.
Do stairlifts work during a power cut?
Yes - most stairlift motors run on rechargeable battery power, which charges automatically when not in use.
Is a stairlift installation VAT exempt?
Many stairlift purchases qualify for VAT relief if the stairlift is for someone with a long-term illness or disability. Eligibility varies, so it's worth asking us directly when you get your quote.
Pricing & Costs
How much does a stairlift cost?
It depends on the type. New straight stairlifts start from £2,100, reconditioned from £1,100, and rental from £600 initially. New curved stairlifts start from £6,000, with reconditioned curved models from £4,000.
Why do curved stairlifts cost more than straight ones?
A curved stairlift is custom-built to follow your staircase's exact bends and turns, requiring a bespoke rail and a more detailed survey - unlike a straight stairlift, which uses a standard rail.
Are there any hidden costs?
No - your free home survey confirms an accurate, no-obligation quote before any work begins.
Straight Stairlifts
How wide do my stairs need to be?
Your staircase should be at least 660mm (26 inches) wide. Your free home survey confirms exact suitability.
How quickly can a straight stairlift be fitted?
Often within 24-48 hours of your survey.
How long does installation take?
Usually under two hours, including a full demonstration.
Curved Stairlifts
How is a curved stairlift different from a straight one?
It's custom-built to follow the exact bends, turns or landings on your staircase, rather than using a standard straight rail.
How long does a curved stairlift take to arrive?
Manufacturing typically takes 5-7 days once your survey confirms the exact specification.
How long does installation take?
A full day, carried out by two skilled technicians.
Rental Stairlifts
How does stairlift rental pricing work?
£600 covers supply, installation and your first 3 months. From month 4, it's just £60 a month for as long as you need it.
Is there a minimum rental period?
Yes - a minimum of one month.
What happens when I no longer need it?
We collect it free of charge, with nothing further to pay.
Reconditioned Stairlifts
Is a reconditioned stairlift as reliable as new?
Yes - every reconditioned stairlift is fully tested and serviced to the same standard before installation.
What warranty comes with a reconditioned stairlift?
A 12-month warranty covering major breakdowns. Cosmetic breakages are chargeable at £90 callout plus parts.
Installation & Safety
Are there weight restrictions?
Standard stairlifts typically carry up to around 20 stone. Heavy-duty models are available for higher weight requirements, with exact capacity confirmed at survey.
How will I know if a stairlift will fit in my home?
One of our engineers confirms this during your free, no-obligation home survey.
Are stairlifts safe to use?
Yes - stairlifts travel at a slow, controlled pace and include a seatbelt as standard.
Warranty & Servicing
Do stairlifts come with a manufacturer's warranty?
Yes - a minimum 12-month parts and labour warranty on every new stairlift.
What happens after the manufacturer's warranty ends?
You can take out extended warranty cover from £215, covering 1 to 5 years.
What happens if my stairlift breaks down?
We guarantee to attend within 24 hours, though most breakdowns are resolved much sooner.
